Juneteenth in the Desert
Last week in celebration of Juneteenth we teamed up with The Arizona Diamondbacks for a program at Chase Field. D-backs employees sat in the stands and enjoyed the film on the big screen. Filmmaker/Director Lauren Meyer "zoomed" into the stadium to chat with D-backs GM, Derrick Hall and answer questions from the guests. Joe Garagiola Jr. shared a story from his Dad after watching the film. The story went... The Hall of Fame created a 2nd Special Committee to choose which Negro Leaguers deserved to be enshrined in Cooperstown. In 2008 the players were set to be inducted and the plan was to bring them to the Hall by bus. Joe said, "These players have ridden the buses too long and will not be put on a bus to come to the Hall." He insisted they get the respect and honor they deserved and they ultimately arrived by limo. We had a great time working with the D-backs and have only praise for the organization. Next time we hope to visit in person.
